Virtue is a Habit

My attempt this year to start digging into my writing has shown me many learning curves so far. It’s been an enriching experience. I’m growing on several fronts but am keenly aware that I’m still an infant unable to crawl or talk at this point in many respects. To the extent that I’ve found time and space to reflect on some of the contours of this, it’s been instrumental in getting a better picture of how I’d like to move forward on my blogging projects. To that end, I’d like to take a minute to hold myself accountable for two things for my two or three readers who might actually be paying attention at this point.

Firstly, in my introductory pieces on Discontinent and Secessio Populi, I signaled my intent to release a piece once a month. I’m sorry to say that I missed my February deadline on both projects. Dad-life and juggling many new pieces into how I need to retool my time management defeated me in this endeavor. I will attempt to catch up for March as I believe that I can without any significant difficulty and that doing so is good practice at improving my time management skills.

Second, I want to apologize for an ethical error I made in the introductory pieces for Discontinent and Secessio Populi. I’ve been developing my frameworks for how I want to approach these projects and outlining my own personal editorial guidelines. I’ve come to realize that the kind of self-plagiarism I employed in writing those two pieces is dishonest and unacceptable. I will make every attempt to not repeat this infraction and remain carefully vigilant against the broader risks of plagiarism in general. To anyone who read either or both of those pieces, I am sorry. I am learning. I will do better.

There will likely be a shorter Discontinent and Secessio Populi piece out soon. They’re going to be a little navel-gazey, as I am still working on putting together some meatier content, but I hope they’re enjoyable.
